Times when a diploma of a college graduate has been a surefire way of landing a high-paying job in the industry of your choice are long in the past. The wide spread of higher education today has played a sick joke on those who go out of their way to get it – there are just too many college graduates around and not enough jobs to accommodate for all of them. As a result, the diploma has lost much of its prior sacred status – today it becomes an object of mockery and jokes more and more often with every passing day. Here we tell you about five creative ways how an unemployed college graduate can at least get some fun from their diploma.
1. Sell It
Or at least try to, like one frustrated graduate of Florida State University. After failing to find any major-related work since her graduation in 2011, she thought of a creative way of dealing with her tuition debt – she placed her diploma on eBay and offered to sell it along with her ‘college experience’ for $50,000. Probably not much in the way of money-making scheme, but a good way to make a statement nonetheless.
2. Laminate It and Use as a Placemat
Lamination process will help it last longer under the ongoing assault of wine, soup and soda. All the while you may show it off as the most expensive tableware accessory in existence – even golden plates would probably be more affordable.
3. Use It as a Mouse Pad
The rough leathery cover of most diplomas is simply perfect for moving a mouse over it – so the next time you cannot make the cursor move across the screen the way you want it, you know where to look for your new impromptu mouse pad. It will be beautiful and stylish and, again, you may warm yourself with a thought that you’ve found at least some use for the piece of paper you’ve been working for years to get.
4. Give It to Your Parents as a Present
Since you know it’s going to be a long while until you can show anything for all the money your parents have spent on you, you may at least give them this physical representation of the education you’ve received for birthday or Christmas or any other meaningful holiday.
5. Make a Paper Airplane
When was the last time you’ve made a paper airplane? If it’s been a while, you have a perfect reason to get back to this honorable art. Come on, live a little – it is the furthest you are going to fly with your diploma, and sending it off is going to be at least symbolic in some fashion.
Don’t worry about damaging or losing it. Nobody is ever going to ask you to show them your college diploma anyway, so you may just let your imagination run wild. Be a bit creative, and you will get a wonderful sense of closure out of it.
